In today’s culture, many churches seem to be drifting away from their foundational purpose: to embody God’s love, call sinners to repentance, and lead people into deliverance. Instead, there’s a growing trend of self-love teachings, spiritual blindness, and hidden evils masked by self-righteousness. While these messages may feel uplifting on the surface, they lack the transformative power of the gospel, and the depth needed to heal broken hearts and set captives free.
The Bible calls the Church to be a beacon of light in a dark world—a place where people find hope, restoration, and truth. But too often, the focus has shifted toward tradition, polished appearances, and maintaining comfort. Self-love, when exalted above God’s love, leads to pride and complacency, blinding people to their need for repentance and the reality of spiritual battles.
This shift has serious consequences. Without a focus on repentance, hearts remain bound by sin. Without deliverance, people carry hidden burdens that weigh down their souls. And without true love—the sacrificial, servant-hearted kind modeled by Jesus—the Church becomes a hollow shell, filled with programs but void of power.
Take this example: If we were to strip away the salaries of preachers and the buildings of churches, how many would still show up? Would pastors preach with the same fire, or would their passion waver? The answer, more often than not, reveals the troubling reality that some serve out of obligation, tradition, or even personal gain, rather than a genuine calling to fulfill God’s mission.
True love doesn’t avoid hard truths; it embraces them. Love speaks of sin, not to condemn, but to invite people into the freedom found in Christ. Love calls for repentance, not to shame, but to restore. Love fights against the hidden forces of evil, breaking chains and healing wounds through the power of God’s Spirit.
The Church must remember that it is not a business or a performance venue—it is the body of Christ, commissioned to bring the gospel to a hurting world. This means getting uncomfortable. It means setting aside self-righteousness, traditions, and superficial teachings to embrace the messy, heart-wrenching work of loving the unlovable, confronting sin, and offering deliverance through the power of Jesus.
It’s time to realign with God’s purpose. The Church must return to being a house of prayer, repentance, and deliverance—a place where people encounter the transforming love of Christ. Let us not settle for comfort or appearance but strive for authenticity and truth. Only then will the Church truly shine as a light in the darkness.
God Bless!
