Life is full of moments where we unintentionally hurt the people we love. Sometimes, in our words or actions, we may not realize that someone we care about is carrying hidden pain—pain we never knew existed which often distorts their love for you. It could be something they’ve been quietly healing from, and our words meant one way, might cause harm in ways we never intended. It’s in these moments that the power of repentance, reconciliation, and self-reflection becomes so important.
This is where the Path to Renewal: A Week of Reflection and Repentance Journal can serve as a powerful tool. It’s not just a space to think about your relationship with God, but a sacred guide to help mend relationships with those around you and yourself. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect, ask for forgiveness, and, importantly, forgive ourselves when we falter.
When we repent, it’s not just for the overt mistakes we know we’ve made, but for the things we may not even be aware of—the things hidden beneath the surface. The process of repentance helps us open our hearts to understanding the full impact of our actions, seeking reconciliation with others, and offering healing where it is needed most.
We often enter relationships expecting our partner to heal wounds we brought into the relationship, unknowingly placing the weight of our past on their shoulders. It can lead to moments where we think, "If you know this hurts me, why don't you stop?"—without realizing that the pain we feel may be tied to something deeper, hidden within ourselves. Jealousy can hide in overachieving, anger in how we mistreat ourselves, and rejection in the fear of asking for help. These are wounds we carry, often without realizing it, and they can spill into our relationships.
But here's the truth: we can't expect others to fix what’s hidden within us. We need to ask for repentance or forgiveness, both from God and from those we may have unknowingly hurt including ourselves. Healing begins when we acknowledge the burden and choose to let go.
I offer you two awesome ways to start today:
Take a moment to pray—ask God to reveal what needs healing and to give you the strength to forgive yourself and others.
Reach out to someone—ask for forgiveness or simply share the burden you're carrying. The path to healing begins with openness and repentance.
Let’s start this journey of healing and forgiveness right now.
